Video - Hillsborough Hometown Update |
|---|
Overview
Hillsborough Township, one of New Jersey’s original 104 townships, is home to nearly 37,000 residents. Citizens receive local news and information from the Courier News and Hillsborough Beacon newspapers, the town’s municipal cable access television channel and a weekly e-mail newsletter from the township.
Objective
The township sought to provide greater news and information about Hillsborough Township to township residents and make this information easily available.
Tactics
Hillsborough turned to Novita to produce a regularly scheduled local news and information video podcast for Hillsborough citizens. Twice each month Novita produces a three- to six-minute program that residents can view on the town’s website, YouTube and on Hillsborough’s cable access television channel. Residents may also listen to the podcast by downloading it from iTunes.
Podcast content has featured information from the township’s board of health on the N1H1 virus, efforts to spur business and job growth in the town, the role of the public’s input in the creation of new public recreation space, and efforts to save taxpayer dollars through a township energy audit.
Thanks to the podcast’s At Home In Hillsborough segment, the public learns about important and fun community events and activities.
Results
Hillsborough residents today have greater access to information on the activities and decisions made by their local government and the events occurring within their town.
